Distractions

Of course I can stare forever at the photo
Lost in the sad smile and the soft focus
And the eyes that stare into a distance filled with...
What? Who?

How I long to be the figure in that distance
Approaching with my own wistful smile
From some imaginary horizon that only her eyes
In that frozen frame, that singularity can see

But these are but distractions from the true course
That has yet to be sailed
Oh, this tossing galleon across these choppy waves
Of confusion; do I dare navigate these seas?

Ah, but those eyes...

Always those eyes.
