Lingering Regret

This last moment of consciousness
Before I surrender to the dark
Those last flickers like blurred photographs
Caught in sidelong glances
As held breaths and prolonged choruses
Of drunken singing chase me into my dreams
But, oh,
The red tinged morning, a mouth full of gravel
Black coffee and a vague memory
Of sharp edges caught in street lights

And then, with the knock at the door,
