Modern Living

The short lived rebellion
Ended with a television set thrown out of the window
The crash after falling thirty floors to certain doom
And meth-fuelled dreams of Jesus
Punctuated by a million laughs that could be screams

There are lurid murals on subway walls
And on the trains themselves
Suicidal artists, dreamers of the modern world
Shoplifting C4 in their pockets drawing attention
To their onerous Gods

And behold, black lipped and black eyed
Entranced wannabe Goths
Nodding sleepily under mops of lank hair
Drawing their blood, imperfect crimson jewels
Cries of anguish, cries of help

And through this all, running the gauntlet between
Truth and certain destruction
Neither saint, nor sinner; imperfectly perfect
He hangs his hat on his sense of justice
But keeps his gun loaded... just in case

This is modern living
This is the promise of our progress
This, the dream
We've come so far, the circle is nearly complete
But the door is closed
We flock to our casinos for religious instruction
Our banks for penance
And then we come home to numb our senses
And forget the lesson we've learned
After all, it is always someone else's fault
And we can point the finger of blame
That's the modern way, litigate, assassinate
Money lubricates the way
There are the haves, and the have nots
Those that give, those that take
And those who'd offer their souls for gold
When their liberties are at stake.

I won't cry over you

I won't cry over you, this cause is already lost
Pick up the broken pieces, and my pride from the dust
Where it lays with my heart, bleeding, but still beating
Closed the door gently, silent curses, this history repeating

Maybe I fall too soon; maybe this is my lot in life
To be that moment's burning spark, but never Mr Right
That would seem a common thread through all I have said and done
At the end of each encounter, why should I reassess what I've become?

You are but a footnote in my book of life
Obscure like a speck of trivia
A leaf making a raft on a river
You are proof that life based on a lie
Will always be false
And that love will not last forever

Confusion
Like a thousand shards of glass
Tearing wounds across my mind
Thoughts chasing across the plains
Like a stampede of headless cattle
Following blind panic to the end of the horizon

So, in the setting of the dying sun, let this be my swift adieu,
Though void now, I shall rebuild; I won't cry over you.

Eyes glittering like disco balls

Eyes glittering like disco balls
She turns to acknowledge the stares
Treading light as air through the crowded halls
All perfume scents and golden hair
A radiant smile to put the angels to shame...

He sees her
Desire
Inside his heart
Is fire

This is too good to be true

Why does it have to be like this?
What does he have to do for a kiss?
The longer he stays the longer he sees
Watch him fall down on his knees

Inside his dreams she walks
Inside his head, her whispers, talks
Siren songs of bygone hours
What once was sweet is now so sour

He sees her
Desire
Inside his heart
Is fire

He has to know, he has to know
He has to break down the walls
Too much is not enough never enough
God damn it, he has to know...

Love would be so sweet
An ocean of silver dreams
A touch, heaven complete
It’s where he wants to be

But distance space and time
Draw forever in a line
And when all is said and done
Love is not what he’s thinking of...

This is it

This is it
The bell tolls slow
Slower
Slowest
Breathing becomes harsh
Harsher
Harshest
Behind closed eyes
The world grows dark
Darker
Darkest
This is the sleep to end one's day
That final twist of light
As from the candle's pillar of flame
Before, with one breath...
Puff

This is it.

Tickled pink

Tickled pink
And happy to see you smile
When the other dark clouds that have threatened previously
Have been exorcised
Leaving only this sunshine
In strands of gold
Playing through your hair
Through the silver streams of the river
Where we walk, collecting twigs and skimming stones
And making memories
While the frogs chorus with the cicadas
And the wind whispers through tree fronds
And the occasional dot of a wild bird is caught
In our peripheral vision
The same vision that we cast glances at one another
Scared to talk, unless it is the idle talk
Of avoiding topics of gravity
Concentrating instead on dreams of the future
And collecting the bones of the past

Still, when you smile, it is a precious jewel
Even when caught sideways by a mischievous glance

Fire & Ice

Hello, is this love I am feeling?
Or some other lie waiting in the wings
Each face on a crowded street blurs
One into another as the tide it sings

We met as strangers, that look we shared
Brought my hand to your hand and me to your bed
Sweet moonlight bent rays reflecting the light of the sun
As the toxic fumes of love swam through my drunken head

This moment, stolen
We can only curse
Forgotten moments
Like fragments of melted ice

No words were exchanged as our passion was spent;
Cold, the morning light, shone, a beacon of truth
A frozen glance between us across the chasm of the defiled bed
Sealed the true meaning of our lies, became burden of proof

This moment, cursed
As cursed as we shall be
Another notch to my belt, I bet
Another layer of ice on my soul

And yet, be this as it may
As we part and go our own ways
This folly will follow us from one night to the next

We’re not looking for perfection
Not even false affection
As we spin out of control again and again...

God

Tumble water falling souls and various threads of gossamer chants
The monks do and waste their time not thinking of their Tools
Cloistered and hiding away from societal yearning nothing but isolation
Dark clothes and holy crosses the only phallus of dark cruel and cold

The angel is weeping the salt of Lot but has no sins perched on stone
With gargoyle claw and curv’d tusk lying still with the dusk
Eyes closed in the pretense of what’s on the other side
Sodom and Gomorrah paid with the price of God’s pride

It was his creation melded in the form he thought true
And blessed to speak in tongues of purple rage and vehement spit
Cast the archangel from heavenly spires into his own glowing pit
And gave the word of ten to bind them to the rock from which they sprang
